Class Descriptions

Ashtanga Improv

With a traditional Ashtanga opening and closing, the core of the class is a fun mix-up of arm balances, inversions, challenging backbends and more. We will heat the room naturally while purifying the muscles and internal organs. Open to students of all levels -- it's about exploration and adventure! If you're new to the Ashtanga practice we offer modifications, use of props and lots of chances to rest and observe.

Ashtanga Led Primary Series

"Yoga Chikitsa" which means Yoga Therapy. Its purpose is to re-align the spine, detoxify the body, build strength, and increase flexibility. This is a group led class in which the postures of the Ashtanga Primary Series are instructed with hands-on adjustments and direction by the teacher. Students should be familiar with the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series.

Power Flow

Power Flow is the perfect fusion of yoga, rigorous movement, and strength. This is a fitness-based practice, linking breath with dynamic vinyasa-style sequencing to tone the body and cleanse the mind. We incorporate core-centric exercises, endurance challenges, and a fast-paced flow to create a total body workout. Students will be invited to build heat, strength and flexibility by powering through their perceived limitations. This is yoga... cranked up to an eleven... and the magic happens when you turn stress into sweat. No gym necessary. 

Yoga for Lunch

Yoga for Lunch is a healthy way to restore energy, calm your mind eliminate those afternoon "blahs." The practice of yoga at midday leaves you feeling happy, calm and energized, instead of lethargic or jittery from a heavy meal or a cup of coffee. Give yourself a noontime pick-me-up and try Yoga for Lunch!

Strong Flow

Get strong and flexible through this dynamic practice! This vigorous style of yoga links breath with movement through a sequence of Sun Salutations and postures. There's plenty of toning and lean muscle building for your entire body. The smooth, continuous flow deepens breathing, increases endurance, and will test the edge of your balance and flexibility. The rigorous, moving flow in this class will build heat - an excellent aid in increasing flexibility and eliminating mental and physical toxins.

Beginner's Yoga: Beyond Basics

Whether you are new to yoga or wanting to revisit your foundations, this class will guide you through the elements of basic postures and help you develop good practice habits by focusing on proper alignment, strength and balance. No flexibility necessary, just your beautiful open mind.

Vinyasa Flow - All Levels

This all-levels Vinyasa Flow class delivers fundamental poses that build strength, balance, flexibility and focus, dynamically moving from pose to pose. You’ll leave refreshed & rejuvenated! 

Happy Hour Flow

Flow into your weekend with Happy Hour Yoga! This is a vinyasa-based power hour designed to energize and invigorate the body while releasing the stressful energy of the week! Class will be set to a fun, themed playlist and will invite you to enter your weekend with joy! Fun and laughter are always guaranteed! Stay after class for a glass of vino in our tea lounge and get to know your fellow SYL yogis!

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini yoga is the yoga of awareness. It is taught through kriyas, or sets, that strengthen the nervous system, balance the glandular system, and purify the body while calming the mind. Kundalini practice is an energetic practice that helps generate and transmute energy in a way that sheds light on imposed limitations and develops the intuitive mind. Kriyas often use mudras (locks), pranayama (breath), asana (posture) and mantra to produce an elevated state of being and over time, an elevated state of consciousness.

Restorative

This class incorporates slow movement with breath to restore the joints and ease sore muscles. This all-levels class reduces stress, joint pressure and is the ideal way to end your work day.

Slow Flow 

This class will encourage us to discover the potential in slowing the breath and flow of vinyasa. We will explore in depth and focus on blending alignment with our own natural rhythm of movement. A great class for any level of student wishing to establish or reinforce a strong foundation.

Prenatal Yoga 

This hour-long class will focus on postures that are appropriate for pregnant women with an emphasis on breathing, relaxation and muscle toning. Have the best possible pregnancy and delivery by learning to stretch and strengthen the body, focus and relax the mind, control breathing and develop awareness. Best of all, meet a lovely community of pregnant women in your neighborhood! 

Baby & Me Yoga

Congratulations on your baby! This class is specifically designed for mothers to practice yoga with their new bundles of joy. Baby & Me Yoga classes provide an opportunity for you to regain the strength and flexibility needed for motherhood, to bond with your baby, and to make friends with other moms. Each class involves flowing yoga movements and slow methodical exercises for strength and awareness with special attention given to developing core strength and stability. This class is perfect for both first time and experienced moms. Throughout the class, you may involve your baby in the movements, hold your baby, or have baby close to you on a blanket. Moms are more than welcome to nurse, change diapers and tend to their babies in the class. No previous yoga experience is necessary. Classes are 45 minutes. Ages 6 weeks to crawling.

Yoga Tune Up

Yoga Tune Up® is a movement program created by Jill Miller that blends classical Yoga postures with Pilates, corrective exercise and self-massage with YTU therapy balls. A Yoga Tune Up® movement practice is a mindful body practice that combines asana, pranayama and meditation. The practice fortifies your underused, overused and misused body parts. With regular practice, participants develop profound body awareness to foster better strength, mobility and stability for life. Some additional benefits of Yoga Tune Up®:
